This suspense novel by Mary Higgins Clark will keep you
guessing from start to end. This book is about Liza Barton; at the age of ten
she accidentally shot her mother while trying to protect her from her abusive
stepfather. When Liza was old enough she changes her name to Celia in order to
keep people from recognizing her and her name.
Celia married and had a son with her first husband who knew about
her past but unfortunately he passed away and she promised him that she would
never tell anyone about her past to keep their son safe from the horrors of people
who were taunting her because they recognized her. She remarries a man who has
also had his first wife die. Her new husband (2nd one) surprises her
with a new home that ends up being the same home she grew up in and the one she
shot her mother in when she was a ten. Her husband does not know about her past
and she ends up staying that she loved the surprise of the new home that they
can start a family in. Within a couple of days of moving in someone in town
knows that Celia is really Liza and starts vandalizing their home with memories
of her murdering her mother. Celia starts investing around town to try and find
