Women’s Murder Club Book Series By: James Patterson

This series of books is based on five good friends who all work within the crime field in San Francisco. There are currently 12 books in the series with the 13th coming out May, 2014. The characters include Lindsay Boxer the homicide detective, Claire Washburn the medical examiner, Jill Bernhardt the assistant D.A and Cindy Thomas the reporter from the Chronicle. The 4th book introduces a new member to the club Yuki Castellano the district attorney. These five women are bright, very successful and solve a lot of murders in San Francisco. With the club solving murders and sending a lot of people to jail, this puts a target on the clubs back. Each book has its own story, but the personal things that happen to each club member carries on to the next book. James Patterson does a great job adding personal touch to each ones lives. For example Lindsay Boxer’s marriage is in trouble water, and she turns to her friends for advice on what to do.

I chose this series because as women we know that it is important that we have at least one close girlfriend that we can really count on and know that we can talk to her about anything and she wouldn’t judge us on our mistakes. These books show the strong bond that club has in terms of “best friends” but also has the murder suspense story that keeps you reading.

The House of Night Series

This is a Fantasy based book about vampires by P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristen Cast. This novel is different from the twilight books because in this world humans know that vampires exist. Vampires are created and marked by a tracker. They are marked by a blue sapphire crescent moon on there foreheads. There is a school that newly changes vampires must attend for 4 years (the time is takes to transform into an adult vampire). During the 4 years at the House of Night boarding school they learn about the different changes that are taking place in their minds and body, and the rules they must follow as a vampire. BUT not ALL young vampires make it through the change, some may only last a couple of weeks until there body rejects the vampire change and they die.

This series is about a 16 year old girl named Zoey Redbird, who suddenly turns into a vampire.  Zoey’s is marked in high school (literally in school). Zoey’s friends and family leave her not wanting anything to do with the vampire race. There is only one person that she can count on and that is her grandmother. Zoey is different from any new young vampire that anyone has seen because her crescent moon is already completely filled in, which signifies that she is an adult vampire. In addition to the filled in crescent moon the adult vampires also develop beautiful tattoos that will be made up of some type of personality trait. Zoey still has to go through the 4 years of “schooling”, but things are different for her. Zoey thought that now being in a place where she is like others it would be easy for her, but with her crescent moon being filled in she feels more alone and out of place then she did when her friends and family rejected her.  Zoey goes through all of the typical teenage stuff, that a teenager goes trough. The House of Night School is more like a college where you live in a dorm. All of the classes are at night because the sun hurts them. They will not die from being in the sun it just causes them pain.

Zoey discovers evil while she is at the House of Night and while she defeats the evil she continues to receive more tattoos over her body, making her have more tattoos than some of the professors at the school. There are 11 books with the 12th book is coming out in October 2014, read to find out why Zoey Redbird is so special and different than any vampire known to man or should I say vampire.

Two Little Girls in Blue - By Mary Higgins Clark

This suspense novel by Mary Higgins Clark is about twin girls Kelly and Kathy who turn up missing on their birthday. When the parents Margret and Steve return home from a party they find a ransom note with demands. If they meet these demands the kidnapper will return Kelly and Kathy. The ransom is paid for by the company Steve works for and the kidnapper only returns Kelly to the parents. Kelly claims that Kathy is still alive and is scared while others believe that she is dead. Margret believes that her twin daughters are communicating with one another and convinces the police and FBI to continue the search for Kathy. There are clues that Kathy is giving to Kelly in order to help her come home. Will she be found dead or alive? Read to find out!

If you have a sister you will like this book, you can really relate to the relationship that the sisters have with one another. And if you have children you will be able to understand what Margret is going through. I really enjoyed this book I think more because I am an identical twin. This book made me tear up at some parts. It’s also interesting because there has been studies that say twins in some way can communicate and feel what the other is feeling which is what Mary Higgins Clark does in this book. My sister and I have never been able to do any type of communication with one another and we have never been able to feel each other’s pain, but that doesn’t mean that it cannot happen.
